At Bushwhacker Tours, we’re proud to be hosting the very first weekend at the newly-created Green Gathering in the Glade project, at Haselbury Mill in Somerset.
Join your guide, Paul, for a fantastic weekend of foraging, bushcraft and great food….
Base Camp for this event is a wooded glade adjacent to Haselbury Mill near Crewkerne, Somerset. You can either camp, bring a camper van/caravan, or if you’re quick enough, book to stay in a rustic Gypsy Caravan or Showman’s Wagon for an extra fee. (Please contact Haselbury Mill on 01460 77095 for further details regarding accommodation)
The itinerary for the weekend
Arrive at your leisure, get set up and become acquainted with your fellow campers. Dinner on Friday is on us! Choose one of our home-made pizzas, cooked in a wood fired oven. You are welcome to enjoy your meal in Haselbury Mill’s pub, and wash it down with a traditional ale, cider or tipple of your choice.
A breakfast of frittata, followed by a forage along the historic Jurassic Coast. We will need to be prepared to travel in convoy for this trip. After the coastal forage, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved with a hands on fish preparation demo, including learning about the curing and smoking process – the fish you prepare will be your very own breakfast the next morning too!
There will also be a salmon ponassing demonstration, which will then be cooked over the camp fire for the evening meal, and will be accompanied by a few other seasonal goodies.
You’ll have your very own smoked fish for breakfast, followed by a woodland/meadow foraging trip – a completely different environment to the coastal forage, with a focus on medicinal plants and their benefits. Dinner on Sunday will be a home-made game stew (We will of course offer a vegetarian option – please state your requirements when booking a place with us).
We will start with a full English breakfast at Haselbury Mill, followed by a riverside wildlife walk, and a chance to test your plant identification skills – make sure you’ve been paying attention!!
Additional activities and information:
Alongside these activities will be the chance to learn other country/bushcraft skills, most notably the opportunity to make your own Mesolithic flat bow with our visiting expert, Paul Newman – if you fancy this, please let us know when you book, as there will be a small additional cost for this class to cover materials, and a list of extra kit you will need to bring in order to complete the task.
Finally, joining us for the weekend will be Zoe Duhig of Hedge Wych, who will be demonstrating and displaying her array of natural products.
Prices for this weekend, including food and tuition, are:
